Oud suggests dark, resinous wood, sometimes with smoke, leather, medicinal sharpness or an animalic edge. Some interpretations are smooth and sweet; others are dry and austere. Rose, saffron, fruit and amber can change the balance substantially.
The Oud note appears across 717 published fragrances in our catalog. Use this page to compare how different brands work with Oud within the woody family.

Oud Wood Eau de Parfum places oud beside sandalwood, vetiver and cardamom, softened by tonka and amber. A composed wood-and-spice introduction to the note.

Oud Maracujá contrasts passion fruit with an oud accord. The sharp, tropical fruit offers a different route into dark

OUD satin mood Eau de Parfum wraps oud in rose, violet and vanilla

Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum sets oud against lavender, saffron, nutmeg

Ombre Nomade pairs a dark oud theme with benzoin and a raspberry accent. Resinous sweetness and fruit sit against its leathery, smoky wood impression.

Black Aoud brings rose and oud together with patchouli and musk. It makes a useful comparison with the more vanilla

Alexandria II combines oud with rosewood, lavender, cinnamon

Oud Ispahan Eau de Parfum pairs a smoky oud impression with rose. It offers a floral-wood direction without the overt tropical-fruit contrast of Oud Maracujá.
Rose gives dark oud a rounded floral center.
Saffron adds dry spice and a leathery facet around the wood.
Sweet resinous amber can soften oud’s darker edges.
Patchouli adds earthy, woody depth to an oud composition.
Frankincense can emphasize dry resin and an incense-like contrast.
Oud is the perfumery name associated with agarwood: aromatic, resin-rich wood produced by certain Aquilaria and Gyrinops trees. Resin formation is a response to injury and stress, with biological processes that are more complicated than the familiar “a tree infected by a fungus” explanation. Research on wounded Aquilaria examines that response directly.
Natural oud oils can smell woody, leathery, resinous, smoky or animalic, with considerable variation. In a finished perfume, “oud” may describe natural oil, a reconstructed accord or a blend. A smooth smell does not prove the absence of natural oud, and a pungent smell does not prove its presence.
The useful choice is between styles: rose and sweet amber can soften the wood; incense and leather can emphasize darkness; fruit can supply a vivid contrast. Agarwood-producing species also feature in CITES trade controls. Sourcing claims require documentation from the supplier rather than assumptions based on a bottle’s name or price.
