The opening is remarkably boozy, lead by green cognac and rum absolute, which provides a sharp, intoxicating brightness alongside a burst of blood orange and clementine. This isn't a harsh alcohol scent, but rather one mellowed by the herbal bitterness of angelica and a tingling prickle of Sichuan pepper. It feels like entering a private lounge where the air is already thick with the remnants of expensive pipes and holiday citrus. As it settles, the fragrance reveals its rich, resinous heart. Tobacco absolute and frankincense create a cloud of sophisticated smoke, but this is softened by a heavy drizzle of honey and caramel. Unlike synthetic gourmands, the sweetness here is grounded by the floor-wax texture of beeswax and a powdery, regal iris.
