Is this the same as the original Dior Addict, or is this a different fragrance?+−
This is the Parfum concentration released in 2014, created by Dior house perfumer François Demachy. The original Dior Addict launched in 2002 in Eau de Parfum form. The 2014 Parfum is widely considered a faithful, deepened interpretation of the original DNA rather than a radical departure — the core character of white florals over a cool, dry vanilla base remains intact, but the Parfum concentration amplifies depth and longevity.
How does this compare to Dior Hypnotic Poison?+−
They share a Dior oriental sensibility but diverge fairly clearly in character. Hypnotic Poison leans into sweet almond and a heavier, more enveloping projection. Dior Addict Parfum is less sweet and more powdery — the vanilla here is cooler and drier, and the white floral heart (jasmine, orange blossom, night-blooming cereus) gives it a more complex, floral dimension that Hypnotic Poison doesn't really pursue. If you find Hypnotic Poison too sweet or dense, Addict may suit you better, and vice versa.
Is this appropriate for everyday wear, or is it strictly an evening fragrance?+−
It leans strongly toward evening and special occasions — the community is fairly consistent on this. The richness of the vanilla-tonka base, the weight of the jasmine sambac absolute, and the overall intensity make it feel most at home after dark or in cooler weather. It can work for daytime in fall and winter, but it's not a light, casual scent. Hot weather tends to amplify its richness in ways that most wearers find overwhelming.
