Rose de Mai is a masterclass in minimalist botanical realism, composed by Jean-Claude Ellena as a tribute to the legendary blooms of Grasse. Rather than a "perfume-y" or synthetic floral, this fragrance captures the experience of standing in a rose garden at dawn. It opens with a singular, concentrated Rose Absolute that feels both lush and airy. This isn't a dark or heavy rose; instead, it is defined by a green, stem-like freshness that makes the scent feel alive and dew-drenched. As the fragrance develops, the character becomes more complex and slightly herbal. The inclusion of geranium reinforces the garden-fresh quality, while immortelle adds a subtle, dry warmth that prevents the floral notes from becoming too sweet. The dry down is remarkably smooth, leaning into a creamy and slightly powdery musk that anchors the flowers without dragging them down. Wearing it feels like a soft, natural veil—it is clean, sophisticated, and avoids the cloying weight often associated with traditional rose perfumes.
