View price detailsLignum Vitae is a striking olfactory contradiction that manages to be both whimsical and ruggedly sophisticated. The experience begins with a distinctive "bakery" accord—a realistic pastry note paired with bright mandarin orange and a sharp crack of black pepper. On first spray, it famously evokes the scent of a lemon sponge cake or buttery biscuits, a playful gourmand opening that sets it apart from more traditional woody fragrances. As the scent settles, it moves away from the kitchen and toward the coast. The heart introduces a salty, metallic edge that grounds the sweetness, making it feel less like a dessert and more like the seasoned timber of an old ship. Gaiac wood and juniper provide a crisp, slightly smoky structure, while ginger adds a zesty heat. The drydown is warm and resinous, leaning on frankincense and amber with a touch of earthy moss, leaving a trail that smells like expensive woods and sea-weathered stone. Wearing it feels like sitting in a cozy library by the ocean, eating a ginger snap while a fire crackles nearby.
